Composting with Cheap Compost Bins

A Compost Bin is something you buy or make yourself for the purpose of:

Turning organic waste into a good product for planting your own flowers or vegetables.

Composting is not only a healthy practice that reduces the solid waste in the environment. It is also a great way to improve the quality of the soil in your garden, that will in turn make your plants and flowers healthier. Composting is a very good soil conditioner because it adds nutrients to your plants and retains soil moisture. It recycles kitchen waste and yard waste. It also introduces good organisms in your garden, and finally it reduces the wastes in landfills.

Buy or Make Your Compost Bin

You can start your composting by buying or making your own cheap compost bins. it does not have to be an elaborate container. Just a simple box or cylinder with enough holes in it will do. To start a compost, lay dried leaves and twigs on the bottom of the cheap compost bins first. Dry materials such as dead leaves and twigs are called brown waste. On top of this brown waste, add a layer of green waste. These are fast-decomposing wastes like food scraps, fruit peelings, rotting fruit, used coffee grounds, and so on.

You may also speed up the composting process by adding green manure in your cheap compost bins. These are clover, wheatgrass, and oats. They will speed up the process of decomposition. After adding these necessary ingredients, moisten your compost by spraying or sprinkling water on top of it. Avoid soaking the compost with too much water because it will suffocate bacteria that will aid in its breakdown. The cheap compost bins must be covered with a lid or something similar to keep pests and animals from getting in. The compost must be stirred once in a while so that enough oxygen will permeate through the pile, and so that the brown and green wastes are properly mixed. Stir the compost once a day. As a rule of thumb, an ideal compost pile is one-third green and two-thirds brown wastes.

What to Do With Compost Product

When you get your compost after 2 weeks, you can stir this and smell the rich earthy goodness of a nutrient-rich soil fertilizer! The resulting material is a dark, moist pile that is soft and feels like soil. You can add this to your garden and they will be absorbed gradually into the soil. On the other hand you may pack these into compost bags. each bag weighs approximately one kilogram. These are highly valuable garden materials which you can sell to garden shops or to your neighbors.

Compost bags are a good environmental business you can start at home. This will encourage your neighbors to use organic compost instead of chemical or artificial fertilizers for their garden. Compost should only be used as a side dressing or additive to your soil. Do not directly plant on composts.

Overall, cheap compost bins are easily available in your local hardware shop. You can also create your own cheap compost bins at home using old water drums and trash cans.
